Paul and Steph knew for a long time that they wanted to head to Hawaii for the USC vs. Hawaii football game in 2010. This presented Paul with the perfect setting for the proposal.
After Paul and Steph decided that they would stay at the Royal Hawaiian on Waikiki Beach, Paul secretly began to plan the proposal.
He put in quite a few calls to the concierge, who helped him plan and execute the entire event successfully.
On August 29th, after spending the day with our friends the Dornbushes (who live on Oahu and so kindly hosted us for our non-hotel portion of the trip), we arrived at the hotel to check in. The hotel staff at the front desk seemed quite excited to see us and sat us down with complimentary pink lemonade and some warm hand wipes. While pulling up our records, they informed us that our room had been upgraded! “Wow, they really treat guests well here!”, Steph thought. We then headed up to our room, where we found some rose petals outside the door. Upon our entrance, Steph found the room to be decorated with rose petals leading to the balcony. At the end of the trail of roses, there was a fresh lei and a letter addressed to Stephanie.
“The Royal Hawaiian welcomes you to paradise”, it read. “During your stay with us, we invite you to celebrate not only the past 5+ years you and Paul have had together, but also your brilliant future together…”.
Steph finished reading the letter and turned to find Paul on knee…and the rest is history.
